Odisha: Govt grants Rs 1.08 Cr for grand celebration of Sital Sasthi in Sambalpur

Bhubaneswar, May 30 (UNI) In an initiative aimed towards the preservation and promotion of Odisha's cultural heritage, the State Government has sanctioned Rs 1.08 crore for the celebration of the historic Sital Sasthi festival in Sambalpur district.
The financial assistance has been approved by the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department following the directions of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. A total of 21 Sital Sasthi committees across the district will receive support for organizing this year's festivities.
Sital Sasthi, one of the most celebrated socio-cultural festivals of western Odisha, marks the ceremonial wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The centuries-old festival is renowned for its spectacular wedding processions, traditional folk performances, devotional fervour and active community participation, drawing thousands of devotees and visitors from across the state and beyond.

Odisha panel clears premature release of Dara Singh, convicted in Staines murder case

Bhubaneswar, Jul 14 (UNI) The Odisha State Sentence Review Board (OSSRB) has recommended the premature release of Dara Singh, the life convict in the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two minor sons in Odisha's Keonjhar district, citing his "good behaviour" in prison.
The recommendation was made during the Board's meeting earlier this month, where it reviewed the cases of eligible life convicts for possible premature release.
