Kolkata, Jan 4 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate
Affairs Anurag Thakur after visiting ailing Sourav Ganguly
on Monday said the BCCI president would soon return to his office and
serve Bengal as well as the country as the former skipper
had seen many ups and downs in his playing career.
" I saw him ( Ganguly) smiling at me when I visited him," Mr Thakur,
also a former BCCI chief, told reporters at Woodlands
hospital in south Kolkata.
"He is a great fighter and had seen many ups and down during his
playing days and he would soon be in the Board of Control for
Cricket India and serve the cricket board as well as Bengal," Mr Thakur said
The nine-member medical team of the hospital on Monday held a virtual
conference with cardiac specialists Ramakanta Panda and Devi Shetty
regarding future medical help needed by Ganguly.
Dr Panda is also the physician of former prime minister Monmohan Singh.
Mr Shetty and his team of doctors are expected to be in the city on
Tuesday to advise the next course of medical assistance for
Ganguly.
Hospital sources said Ganguly may be released after consultation with
Dr Shetty on Tuesday and partial blockage for two more vessels
to be repaired in future.
Earlier bulletin of the day said Sourav Ganguly, who had undergone an
angioplasty
last weekend, is doing well as a routine ECG on Sunday was satisfactory.
Meanwhile, Vice-President of India Venkaiya Naidu and Prime Minister
Narendra Modi had telephonic talks
with the family members of Ganguly and enquired about the latest
health position of the former Indian captain.
On Saturday the angioplasty was done for a vessel, which was totally
blocked, and two more vessels were partial
blocked, an earlier medical bulletin had said.
He was suffering from triple vessel disease.
Ganguly had an uneventful night after having rice, dal, vegetables
and castarad in the dinner last evening,
the medics said.
Forty-eight-year-old Ganguly was now under the care of Dr Saroj
dandal, Dr Soutik Panda, Dr Saptarshi Basu of a nine-member medical board.
" A check up echocardiography to be done today morning to assess his
heart function' and then the medical board members will meet and discuss further treatment plans
with family members.
Former Aussi great Greg Chappel also wished a speedy recovery for Ganguly.
BCCI secretary Jayant Shah is expected to visit the hospital to see his president.
