Manchester, Aug 8 (UNI) England were 55/1 at lunch, needing 222 runs more to win on day four of the first Test match against Pakistan, at Old Trafford on Friday.
At break, Dom Sibley (26 not out) and Joe Root, the England captain (18 not out) were at the crease.
Pakistan resumed on 137-8, with a lead of 244 and managed to add 32 runs to their overnight total thanks to Yasir Shah's 33-run cameo which came off just 24 balls.
Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer took the final 2 wickets to bowl Pakistan out for 169 in their 2nd innings. England now need to score 277 runs to take a 1-0 series lead.
Chasing the target, England were off to a bad start. Mohammad Abbas gave Pakistan the first breakthrough by removing England opener Rory Burns for 10.
Since Burns' wicket, Joe Root and Dom Sibley have played well to take England to safety.
