Big-ticket deals, global participation mark Wings India 2026 grand finale

Hyderabad, Jan 31 (UNI) Several headline-making deals and high-profile MoUs underscored the strong momentum of India’s aviation sector as the four-day Wings India 2026 concluded at Begumpet Airport here on Saturday.
At the centre of attention was Air India, which placed an additional order for 30 Boeing narrow-body aircraft, taking its overall aircraft order book to a staggering 600.
The airline also signed a long-term services agreement with Boeing for its 787 Dreamliner fleet.
In another strategic move, Air India converted 15 A321neo orders into the long-range A321XLR with Airbus, paving the way for new non-stop international routes.
Boosting India’s rotary-wing segment, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signed a contract with Pawan Hans Limited for the supply of 10 Dhruv NG helicopters.
Strengthening the Make in India push, Sakthi Group and Omnipol inked an MoU to introduce the L410 NG aircraft in India, including plans to explore a final assembly line in the country.
In the airport infrastructure space, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) partnered with Airports Council International (ACI) to provide professional accreditation for airport managers, enhancing global standards and best practices.
The mega aviation event was inaugurated with a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the static display and exhibition areas were formally opened by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu and Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha.
High-level conferences during the event brought together global aviation leaders such as Campbell Wilson, Pieter Elbers, and Antonoaldo Neves, with discussions covering a wide spectrum including airports, airlines, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), MROs, drones, and advanced air mobility.
The skies over Begumpet thrilled spectators with breathtaking aerobatic displays by the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, flying indigenous Hawk Mk-132 aircraft.
On the ground, the static display showcased over 30 aircraft, featuring indigenous platforms like HAL’s Hindustan 228, Dhruv ALH-NG, LUH, and Hansa-3 NG, alongside global aircraft such as the A321neo, A220, Falcon 6X, and PC-24.
Wings India 2026 also highlighted the rapid expansion of India’s civil aviation ecosystem: the number of airports has grown from 74 to 164 in the last 11 years, 92 airports have been operationalised under the UDAN scheme, 1.5 crore passengers have benefited from regional connectivity, and 1,628 pilot licences were issued in 2025 alone.
Buoyed by the resounding success of the 2026 edition, organisers announced that Wings India 2028 will be held in the next even year, with dates and venue to be announced in due course.
