Airtel expands wi-fi service to 1.5 million news households in Karnataka

Bengaluru, July 30 (UNI) Bharti Airtel, a leading telecommunications provider in India, on Tuesday announced a significant expansion of its Wi-Fi services, extending coverage to an additional 1.5 million households across Karnataka.
This move underscores Airtel's commitment to enhancing digital accessibility in one of India's most populous states and is expected to have far-reaching implications for the region's digital landscape.
The expansion of Airtel Wi-Fi services brings with it several noteworthy benefits for consumers. The can expect not only high-speed and reliable internet connectivity but also access to a broad spectrum of entertainment options.
Airtel's offerings include over 350 TV channels and access to more than 20 OTT (Over-The-Top) platforms, positioning the service as a comprehensive digital entertainment hub.
The service plans range from an entry-level tariff of Rs 699 per month, offering speeds up to 40 Mbps, to a premium plan costing Rs 3999 per month, providing speeds up to 1 Gbps. Each plan includes access to a suite of OTT platforms and TV channels, with higher-tier plans offering additional services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar.
Airtel's expansion in Karnataka is a strategic move aimed at capitalising on the growing demand for high-speed internet and digital content.
The region's increasing internet penetration and the proliferation of smart devices have created a ripe market for broadband services. By providing a comprehensive package of high-speed internet and entertainment options at competitive prices, Airtel is well-positioned to capture a significant share of the market.
Moreover, the inclusion of regional content, such as popular Kannada TV channels and localised OTT offerings, enhances the appeal of Airtel's services to the local population. This tailored approach is likely to resonate well with consumers seeking content in their native language, thereby strengthening Airtel's foothold in the region.
Airtel's expansion comes at a time when competition in India's broadband market is intensifying. With players like Reliance Jio and BSNL also vying for market share, the addition of 1.5 million new households to Airtel's service area is a proactive step to maintain and grow its customer base.
The inclusion of popular OTT services as part of the package could serve as a differentiator, offering consumers added value beyond basic internet connectivity.
