Sensex ends at 52,930.31, 9 week low

Mumbai, May 12 (UNI) Extending losses for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, the BSE Sensex plummeted 1,158.08 points, below 53K to close at 52,930.31, a nine-week-low on weak global peers as investors booked profit following oil prices, the Russia-Ukraine war, Inflation and interest rates.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too dipped 359.10 pointss at 15,808.
The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 53,632.55 and 52,702.30 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded the day's high and low at 16,041.95 and 15,735.75 respectively.
The Sensex fell 480 points to open at 53,608.35. During the day, it crashed 1,386 points at 52,702.30, the day's low, before closing at 52,930.41, down 1,158 points from its previous close.
Sectoral indices like power, utilities, metal, bankex and finance kept the under pressure.
In scrips, IndusInd Bank slid 5.82 per cent to Rs 869.45 followed by Tata Steel by 4.13 per cent to Rs 1,118.15, Bajaj finance by 3.76 per cent to Rs 5,588, Bajaj Finserv by 3.53 per cent to Rs 12,848.95 and Axis Bank by 3.44 per cent to Rs 649.35.
The sole gainer was Wipro by 0.91 per cent to Rs 475.50.
The Mid Cap declined by 2.24 per cent and Small Cap by 1.96 per cent.
In 30 scrips, 1 rose while 29 declined.
Asian Market was also down as Australia fell by 1.89 per cent, China by 0.12 per cent, Hong Kong by 2.24 per cent, Japan by 1.77 per cent and Taiwan by 2.43 per cent.
