Mumbai, Jul 18 (UNI) The equity market maintained its winning streak intact for the fifth straight week, as the Sensex spurted by 425.81 points or 1.16 pc to settle at 37,020.14 in week under review on positive global cues.
Good corporate earnings from key index components helped underpin investor sentiment even as coronavirus cases rose globally.
The Nifty too gained 133.65 points or 1.24 pc to settle at 10,901.70.
BSE Mid-Cap index advanced 133.92 or 1 pc to settle at 13,530.75. BSE Small-Cap fell 21.25 points or 0.17 pc to settle at 12,782.53.
Trading for the week began on positive note as the key indices logged modest gains on Monday. The BSE Sensex rose 99.36 points to settle at 36,693.69. The Nifty added 47.15 points to settle at 10,815.20.
On Tuesday, the Sensex tumbled 660.63 to settle at 36,033.06. Nifty too slumped 195.35 points to settle at 10,607.35.
On Wednesday, the Sensex rose 18.75 points to settle at 36,051.81. Nifty rose 10.85 points to settle at 10,618.20
On Thursday, the trading was volatile due to expiry of weekly index options. Sensex surged 419.87 points to settle at 36,471.68. Nifty jumped 121.75 points to settle at 10,739.95.
On Friday, the Sensex surged 548.46 points to settle at 37,020.14. Nifty 50 too jumped 161.75 points to settle at 10,901.70.
