Production of Bamboo Candles by SHGs under construction

Udaipur, Nov 10 (UNI) The SHGs play a vital role to lift the rural economy, as well as financial independence through self-employment, which encourages women empowerment in rural areas.
There are 559 SHGs comprising of around 6000 members and 23 Federations under the Nalchar RD Block of Sepahijala District, supported by Tripura Livelihood Mission for PM Atmanirbhar Bharat and 'Vocal for Local'.
On the eve of auspicious occasion in the present crisis situation of COVID-19, the SHGs are working day and night for helping people and earning their livelihood by the production of Masks and sanitizers.
The SHGs under this Block are also involved in the work associated with Bamboo products, Agriculture, ARDD, Fisheries and Dairy.
Bagabasa Gram Panchayat under Nalchar RD Block is well known for its Bamboo crafts. Now, in view of the upcoming Diwali Festival, the
District Magistrate & Collector of Sepahijala District, Vishwasree B, IAS has inspired the production of innovative products, which can strengthen the rural livelihood.
Being encouraged by the District Magistrate & Collector of Sepahijala District, Maa Tara SHG of Bagabasa Gram Panchayat headed by Smt Dipali Paul and nine other members and Rabisankar SHG headed by Mandira Das and nine other members have taken an innovative initiative of production of Bamboo Candles, which was launched by Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb on November 6, at 1600 hrs at his office.
The initiative was highly appreciated by the Government of Tripura as well as people of Tripura.
The eco-friendly Candles are made of Pawra, Muli bamboo and nicely decorated.
The District Magistrate & Collector of Sepahijala District has ensured
all kind of support required to enhance their production. It is also a
fact that Block Administration and Block Mission Management unit of Nalchar RD Block has played an active part in facilitating and
monitoring the SHG women to take up the novel idea of making bamboo candles and giving aesthetic shape to it.
Being inspired by this unique production of the said SHG, other SHGs have also started production of bamboo candles costing from 30 rupees to 110 rupees according to the design. Presently Near about 22 nos.
The SHGs involving 200 members are now preparing this product so that maximum number of candles can be delivered for illuminating the houses during the festival of lights, Diwali.
Thus, SHG women of this Block are playing a significant role in poverty alleviation, self-employment and encouraging women’s participation in rural development.
