Investment Options for Young Generation in India

Delhi, Oct 12, 2020 (UNI/TNM):, Indian families have strong tendency to put their money in bank savings, gold or long term investments like real estate but in the recent years, the trend of making serious investment in stocks, mutual funds and other high-risk, high reward options has been picking up. Many high net-worth individuals are also considering Portfolio Management Services (PMS) offered by major brokerages in India.

The younger generation has many options and access to a lot of financial tools and information. Compared to investment in the stocks in the 1990s, technological advancements have changed the information access in favor of investing community. Investors and traders are able to get up-to the minute information about stocks and companies they are interested in. Many forums focused on stock market investments are good starting point for new investors. There are many online books available on Amazon and online courses (on platforms like Udemy) that offer genuine investment advice. Before making any investment, due-diligence should be conducted.

Online Gaming and Sports Betting

Online gaming and sports betting has also witnessed a strong growth in the recent months in India. There are many platforms that offer transparent betting and casino options. Casino players should check onlinecasinoguide.in for online casino reviews and general information about the Indian iGaming market. The list offers online casino platforms that offer payments in Indian currency. There is a wide choice of casino games and sports betting. The download for iGaming apps has witnessed a strong growth during COVID-19 lockdowns.

Investment in Crypto-currencies

Other major option emerging for youngsters for investment is crypto-currency. The surge in price of BitCoin, LiteCoin, Ethereum, Tether, Monero Ripple and other coins has led to an increased interest in cryptocurrency markets. Indian Central Bank had earlier banned any investment in crypto-currencies by Indian residents but a recent order by the Supreme Court has struck down the ban. The current situation about investment in crypto-currencies in India hasn’t been clarified by the Reserve Bank of India but the government is planning to bring in regulations for control over investments in crypto-currencies.

Investment in Gold and Silver

Investment in precious metals like Gold and Silver has been popular in India for the last many decades. However, the recent rise in valuation of Gold has led to many Indian families monetizing their gold assets in order to invest in other assets. Whenever there is a decline in other asset classes, the price of gold rises to a new high. During the panic selling in stock markets witnessed during March 2020, the price of Gold and Silver witnessed a surge.

Other Investment Options

The real estate boom witnessed in India during year 2001 and 2008 (before the economic crisis) has led to rise of the new assets class for long term investments. Before 2001, Indians were mainly making investment in residential real estate and the aim was to own a home or an apartment. However, during the last two decades, the trend for a second home or real estate investment for renting, has been picking up. In metro cities, ease of bank credit has helped many families own additional home. While the bank loan can be returned over long period, the rental income has been a supplemental source of income for many families.

In the recent months, Indian government has also allowed Indian residents to invest in stocks of global companies. As there has been surge in market valuation of technology companies like Apple, Google, Netflix and Amazon, interest in these companies has grown worldwide.

For investments to bear fruit, the timing, future trends and right valuation are very important factors. While easy information access has its benefits, the easy access to communication tools has also led to ease of spread of fake information. Many times, newbie investors fall prey to quick-money making schemes offered by some shady companies. Investors should be careful about anything that offers quick returns.
