UP Budget: Rs 21,159 cr proposed for roads, bridges

Lucknow, Feb 22 (UNI) In a bid to lay the foundation of Atmanirbhar Uttar Pradesh on the lines of Atmanirbhar Bharat through better road infrastructure, the Yogi Adityanath government has laid special focus on strengthening roads and bridges in its budget for the financial year 2023-24.
In the budget for the next fiscal a provision of Rs 21,159.62 crore has been made for the construction of roads and bridges, whereas Rs 6,209.50 crore has been proposed for maintenance works. An amount of Rs 1,525 crore has been earmarked for roads in rural areas.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna pointed out that during the tenure of the Yogi government, 21696 km long rural roads have been constructed and 18407 km of roads have been widened and strengthened. A provision of Rs 3,473 crore is made for the bridges and roads for agricultural marketing facilities.

An arrangement of Rs 1,525 crore has been proposed for roads in rural areas. In addition to this, an arrangement of Rs 1,700 crore has been proposed for the construction of railway overbridges and Rs 1,850 crore is allocated for other bridges.
A provision of Rs 2,588.80 crore has been made for the widening and strengthening of state highways and for new works. A provision of Rs 2,538.80 crore has been made for the widening and strengthening and new works of major and other district roads.
The government has made a provision of Rs 1,000 crore for the development of roads having religious and spiritual relevance. Rs 3,000 crore has been proposed for maintenance of roads and Rs 2,500 crore for construction of roads is proposed from the State Road Fund.
The government has proposed Rs 50 crore for widening, strengthening and construction work of 4 lane roads for industrial and logistic park. A provision of Rs 250 crore has been proposed for widening and strengthening, renovation and reconstruction works of roads for agricultural marketing facilities in sugar mill area.
