There is need for special working group on start-ups and innovation: MoS Commerce at SCO meet

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Suggesting a range of measures to bolster trade during her address at Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, Minister of State (MoS) for Commerce Anupriya Patel has stressed on the need for setting up a special working group on start-ups and innovation.

She called for balanced and equitable growth in trade and commerce at 20th meeting of SCO Ministers hosted by Kazakhstan.

The minister stated that cooperation in the field of start-ups and innovation can be a focal point in reviving economies from the effects of the pandemic. She invited all SCO member-states to take part in the upcoming Start-up Forum being hosted by India.

Patel noted the significant gap in digital technologies between developed and developing countries and called for narrowing them down by building digital capacities.

On the environment issues the minister welcomed the need for environment protection and mitigation of adverse effects of climate change while underscoring that the climate agenda should not introduce measures which become unnecessary barriers to trade.

The virtual meeting was attended by the Secretary General of SCO and heads of delegations of China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
