Beirut, Sep 26 (UNI) Newly appointed Lebanese Prime Minister Mustapha Adib has announced his decision to step down due to his failure to form a new cabinet reported, said media reports on Saturday.
Following his meeting with President Michel Aoun, the outgoing PM said, "It has become clear for me that the consensus no longer exists noting that the efforts have reached their final stages".
Adib also expressed his appreciation for French government to ensure political stability in Lebanon. "The initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron must continue because it expresses the sincere intention of France."
Adib was appointed on August 31 to form a new cabinet following the resignation of Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab's cabinet after the blasts that rocked Beirut on August 4.

However, Adib's efforts faced several obstacles like the insistence of the two Shiite political parties to hold the Finance Ministry and name the Shiite ministers in the new cabinet.
