Chandigarh, Jun 29 (UNI) The Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said that a New sports policy will be introduced soon, under which every player will be supported by the government whether the player is of national or state level.
He said while interacting with the media during the prize distribution ceremony at the conclusion of the 6th National Wheelchair Basketball Championship for Men and Women at Sports Complex in Mohali.
Mr Rijiju said that the Sports Ministry will convene a meeting with the sports departments of all the states soon, for ensuring the best interests of the players with the help of the state governments.
He said that there is a need for strengthening the sports infrastructure in the country for which all preparations are being made.
He said that Khelo India Campaign is already going on in the country and now another campaign with the name of 'Fit India,' will be launched at the national level, for which preparations are going on in full swing. For time being, it is under the active consideration that what strategy or process will be adopted for this.
The minister said that the performance of India at Olympics has not been good for quite some time. Last time too, India had brought two medals only, so this time the mission of the Sports Ministry will be Tokyo 2020, under which the players will be given all the facilities. And this time the effort will be to improve India's performance in the Tokyo Olympics.
