New Maradona documentary premiered at Cannes

Cannes, May 21 (UNI) Football legend Diego Maradona has an new biopic on his trophy-filled career.
‘Diego Maradona’, a documentary film directed by Indian-origin English filmmaker Asif Kapadia, tells the story of the Argentinian maestro’s spectacular stint at the Italian club Napoli. Set in the ‘80s and early ‘90s in Italy, the film is also about his flaws, from cocaine addiction to alleged links to the mafia.
The film, which premiered in the Out of Competition section of the Cannes film festival on Sunday, is the second film on Maradona to be screened at the festival in almost a decade. The festival had premiered ‘Maradona by Kusturica’ by Serbian director Emir Kusturica in 2008 when Maradona walked the famous red carpet of Cannes festival. Maradona, however, was absent at the world premiere of the new documentary on Sunday.
