New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid arrived here on Saturday on an official visit.
This is Mr Shahid's first foreign visit since taking office.
"Both countries share ethnic, linguistic, cultural and commercial ties steeped in antiquity....Together we prosper," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
According to official sources, the visiting dignitary will meet his Indian counterpart External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday.
He will also call on President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday.
Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took over as the new President of Maldives on November 17 after a keenly observed election.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the grand swearing in ceremony as one of the special invitees.
Shortly after the swearing in ceremony, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting with the new President Solih at Male.
Meanwhile, Teodor Melescanu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, also arrived here on Saturday evening.
Mr Melescanu is slated to meet External Affairs Minister Ms Swaraj.
He will also meet Deputy NSA.
"India and Romania celebrate 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations this year," MEA spokesman tweeted.
