New Keith Richards film premiered at Toronto festival

Toronto, Sep 18 (UNI) A new documentary film on Keith Richards will have its online release worldwide today with the Rolling Stones guitarist presenting its world premiere at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival. 'Keith Richards: Under the Influence' directed by Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville is released on the same day of the release of the musician's new solo album 'Crosseyed Heart' today. The film, which was presented in the Toronto festival's new 'Primetime' programme for television productions last night, traces the influence of American blues greats like Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy on the Rolling Stones. "You are what you hear and what you have been listening over the years," Richards said at a press conference before the screening of the film, which uses archival footage never seen before. "These are the guys we looked up to when we started playing," Richards said referring to the influence of American blues singers on the Rolling Stones. "When we toured the United States, they will come and thank us for reviving blues," he added. "It was one of the side-effects of what we did," said Richards, about today's young people learning about the history of music in America. According to Neville, who directed 'Twenty Feet From Stardom', the documentary on backup singers that won the Oscar last year, rock stars are also fans of other musicians. "Keith Richards talked to me during my interviews with him about the musicians who influenced him," he said. Speaking on how the Rolling Stones have remained in the scene for decades, Richards said it had to do with community and friendship. "The questions is do you meet the right people to play with. That is the essence of a band." "For me it is a miracle. I got lucky in the first go. ai got Mick Jagger," he said about his association with the Stones frontman. "A band is like a weird family life with no babies," he joked. Launching the new documentary on him at the Toronto festival, the Rolling Stones legend said he stood by his dislike for rap music. "I need music. I need musical notes to change," Richards said. "It does not grab me," he said when asked whether his stance on rap music had changed. "Lots of people love it," he said while maintaining that he has not had a change of mind about rap music. 'Keith Richards: Under the Influence' is released online by American internet television network, Netflix. UNI XC SV 1238
