Netflix tells subscribers no immediate changes after ‘Warner Bros.’ deal

Los Angeles, Dec 7 (UNI) Following the announcement of its landmark deal to acquire ‘Warner Bros. and HBO Max,’ Netflix has emailed subscribers to assure them that nothing is changing, for now, regarding their plans or the service, reports Variety.
The message, sent late Friday with the subject line “Welcoming Warner Bros. to Netflix,” emphasised that both platforms will continue to operate independently while the acquisition moves through approvals.
“We recently announced that Netflix will acquire Warner Bros., including its film and television studios, HBO Max and HBO,” the email stated.
“This unites our leading entertainment service with Warner Bros.’ iconic stories, bringing beloved franchises like Harry Potter, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Casablanca, Game of Thrones, and the DC Universe together with Stranger Things, Wednesday, Squid Game, and Bridgerton,” according to Variety.
Under the header “What’s changing?” Netflix reassured customers, “Nothing is changing today. Both streaming services will continue to operate separately.”
The company also reiterated that the deal still requires regulatory and shareholder approval.
Netflix added, “You’ll hear from us when we have more to share. In the meantime, we hope you’ll continue enjoying Netflix exactly as you do now — all on your current membership plan.”
The acquisition, valued at USD 72 billion in equity and USD 82.7 billion including debt, includes Warner Bros.’ film and TV studios, HBO and HBO Max, and Warner Bros. Games.
Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery expect the transaction to close within 12–18 months, contingent on regulatory clearance and WBD shareholder approval.
The email also directed subscribers to a help-center FAQ addressing questions about the merger. One FAQ asked whether current HBO Max subscribers should cancel; Netflix responded that both services will remain separate until the transaction officially closes.
Netflix closed the message by reaffirming its commitment to expanding “great TV shows, movies, games, and live programming.”
Additionally, Netflix noted that Warner Bros. will continue to operate its studio independently, including releasing films theatrically. However, release windows are expected to become “much more consumer friendly” over time, co-CEO Ted Sarandos told analysts.
