NEHU students refuse to end hunger strike despite VC assurance

Shillong, Nov 7 (UNI) Students from the central-run North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya has refused to withdraw their indefinite hunger strike despite Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla on Thursday assured the agitating students to form an Enquiry Committee to examine their long-pending demands.
One of the female students, who have been on a hunger strike for the past 48 hours outside the Vice Chancellor’s office, demanding the immediate resignation of Shukla and removal of four varsity’s officials, was rushed to NEHU health care centre on Thursday due to deteriorating health.
Doctors constantly checked the vital parameters of the students who are participating in the hunger strike which started soon after talks between NEHU Students Union (NEHUSU) and Vice Chancellor failed on Tuesday.
