Patna, Sep 16 (UNI) National General Secretary of JD(U) R C P Singh today announced that negotiation on seat sharing between his party and BJP for next Lok Sabha elections, was in final stage and formal announcement about details of seat sharing would be made soon.
Mr Singh, after state executive meeting of JD(U) organised at official residence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, told media persons that negotiation between his party and BJP was on and the issue of seat sharing would be settled soon. A formal announcement on details of seat sharing would be made at highest level within few days, he added.
General Secretary said that the seat sharing with BJP would be respectable and also in accordance with the presence and strength of the party in Bihar. There was no confusion over the issue of seat sharing between JD(U) and BJP, he clarified while responding to queries of media persons.
Mr Singh, to another query on stand of the party for reservation to poor among upper castes, said that the issue did not come up for discussion during the state executive meeting. As per existing constitutional provision, only socially and educationally backwards could be given reservation in government services, he pointed out.
General Secretary said that programmes aimed at expanding the mass base of the party
would continue and directive had already been issued for carrying out membership drive.
Rallies and meetings would be organised in all Lok Sabha seats of Bihar and by the end
of February, JD(U) would get prepared for next general elections, he added.
Mr Singh, however, hastened to add that his party always remained prepared for election.
Training programmes at different levels in the party were organised in past and it would be
done in days ahead as well, he stated.
General Secretary, to a query on possibility of poll strategist Prasant Kishore being
inducted in cabinet, who had joined JD(U) during the day, said it was prerogative of the
chief minister.
He should be asked such questions, said the JD(U) leader.
Mr Singh did not respond the query on possibility of cabinet expansion of Nitish Kumar
government, saying he had no idea about it.
When cabinet would be expanded and how many new faces would be inducted, were
such issues which could be addressed only by the chief minister, he added.
State JD(U) president Vashistha Narain Singh, who was present on the occasion, said
80 thousand both level agents would be given training for next Lok Sabha elections.
It would be ensured that agents to be deployed at booths could have proper training
and knowledge for benefits of the party, he remarked.
