Nearly 65 pc of Arth Ganga Project completed: Mandaviya

New Delhi, Feb 13 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Shipping Manshuk Mandaviya said on Thursday that with 65 per cent of Arth Ganga Project completed, the ministry is now developing Varanasi freight village and Sahibganj industrial cluster-cum-logistics park to create synergy with inland waterways at the cost of Rs 200 crores, which will generate numerous employment opportunities in the National Waterways stretch.
While speaking at a press conference here, Mr Mandaviya said that about 65 per cent of the project i e from Varanasi to Sahibganj, has been completed with Farakka Navigation Lock to be inaugurated next. “We are confident that the project will be completed before its December 31, 2022 deadline with Haldai unit getting ready by this November,” he added.
“The objective behind developing freight village and industrial cluster-cum-logistics park is to bring all the storage, manufacturing and processing units together so as to cut the last mile connectivity cost born by the cargo owners,” an official said, adding that the project would allow small traders and villagers another option of moving their goods from waterways, apart from roadways and railways.
