NDA Govt led by BJP unofficially seeks details of Loan Waiver undertaken in Karnataka: Kumaraswamy

Belagavi, Dec 14 (UNI) The BJP Government has ‘unofficially’ sought the details on the farm loan waiver scheme announced by Karnataka government a few months ago, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said here on Friday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Road Safety Awareness campaign organised at Police Parade Grounds here, he said he had learnt that the union government had sought the details of the farmers loan waiver scheme from State BJP leaders using their avenues in the government.
‘’It is a pity that the BJP central leadership has requested its leaders in Karnataka to send the details of the loan waiver scheme in Karnataka. This comes after the Union Government flatly refused to help the farmers by writing off farm loans availed by them in PSU banks coming under it. Now after the severe drubbing in Assembly elections in five States, the Modi government seem to have learnt the lesson the hard way,’’ he added.
Karnataka government has announced Rs 44,000 crore farm loan waiver scheme writing off loans availed by farmers to the extent of Rs two lakh. This covers farmers who availed loans from both state-controlled Cooperative banks as well as commercial and PSU banks benefiting over 22 lakh farmers.
However, the BJP leadership in Karnataka was critical of the coalition government saying that even after three months only 600 farmers had received letters about the farm loan waiver and PSU banks had refused to write off the interest component and demanded full reimbursement of principle and interest.
Mr Kumaraswamy said his government would give a befitting reply to BJP criticism by early implementation of the scheme.
At the road safety function, he said on the back drop of over 50 persons having died on Belagavi-Yaragatti road in last few months, five departments including Police, Health, Education and Public Works department had worked out a road safety measures which had resulted in decline in number of accidents and deaths on the said road. The same model will be emulated, adopted and implemented across the state.
