NCST serves notice to Odisha govt. on violation of Forest Rights Act

Bhubaneswar, Jun 24 (UNI) The National Commission for Scheduled Tribe (NCST) has issued a notice to Odisha Chief Secretary while taking cognisance of a petition on allegation of promoting Vana Surakhya Samities (VSS) through Ama Jungle Yojana (AJY) and JICA Project violating the Forest Rights Act.
In a letter to the state chief secretary and forest secretary, the commission said it would investigate into the matter in pursuance of the power conferred upon it under Art 338 A of the constitution. The commission has further directed the chief secretary to submit the facts and information on the action taken for the protection of tribal and their land to the commission within 15 days of receipt of the notice.
The commission warned the chief secretary that it would exercise its power of civil courts conferred on it if the latter failed to reply the commission within the stipulated time.
