nCoV: India reports highest single-day recoveries

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) India on Monday reported highest daily recoveries of 54,859 from the deadly novel Coronavirus during the past 24 hrs, taking the total number of cured and discharged to 15,35,743.
With the new jump in recoveries, the recovery rate has risen to 69.33 per cent, as per Union Health Ministry update.
In the same period, the country registered 62,064 new cases, pushing the countrywide caseload to 22,15,075. The death toll too mounted to 44,386 with 1007 fresh deaths, owing to the contagion.
Currently 6,34,945 cases are active pan India.
The country conducted a total number of 4,77,023 tests during the previous day, which takes the cumulative total of tests till August 9 to 2,45,83,558.
The worst-hit Maharashtra has 1,45,865 active cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh 87,112, Karnataka 80,981, Tamilnadu 53,336 and Uttar Pradesh at 47,890.
National capital Delhi has 10,729 active cases. 13 people succumbed in the past 24 hrs.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases, globally, topped 19.7 million on Monday, according to Johns Hopkins University. The total number of cases stood at 19,778,566 and the fatalities rose to 729,692.
The US accounted for the world's highest number of infections and fatalities at 5,044,435 and 162,919, respectively. Brazil came in the second place with 3,035,422 infections and 101,049 deaths. In terms of cases, India ranks third.
