nCoV: 345 new cases, five deaths in UT

Puducherry, Aug 24 (UNI) As many as 345 more persons tested positive for the COVID-19 and five persons died in the last 24 hours ending at 1000 hrs on Monday in the union territory, leaving 3,753 active cases here.
According to the COVID-19 status for Monday released by the health department, 304 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 31 in Karaikal and 10 in Yanam region. As many as 285 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours. A total 218 were from Puducherry region, 43 from Karaikal and 24 from Yanam region. Five persons died in Puducherry region in the last 24 hours.
Presently, 1,550 persons are being treated in Puducherry region, 94 in Karaikal, 50 in Yanam and two in Mahe region. Another 2057 persons(1954 in Puducherry region,57 in Karaikal and 46 in Yanam region) are under home isolation.

So far,10,859 persons were infected by the virus of which 6,942 were treated and discharged,164 died leaving 3,753 active cases here.
Meanwhile, Director of Medical Services (DMS) Dr Mohan Kumar in a whats app posting said that a 61-year- old male, 59-year-old male and 56-year-old female with other diseases died of Covid pneumonia in Jipmer while, a 63-year-old female died of Covid pneumonia in Sri Lakshminarayana Institute of medical Science (Covid care center) and a 61-year-old female positive died in the Puducherry government hospital due to septic shock.
