NCB official fires in air to prevent angry mob assaulting him

Panaji, Oct 7 (UNI) An officer of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had to resort to fire in air after some locals of a village in North Goa tried to assault him during an anti-narcotics search and raid operation.

Confirming the news, Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Chandan Choudhary said one shot was fired by the NCB officer to disperse the crowd.

A statement of the NCB Superintendent J Ranjan was being recorded at the Pernem Police Station, she said, adding a First Information Report would be filed soon.

According to police sources, Mr Rajan was accompanied by four police personnel for a nearby police when he was on the raid operation in Arambol village.

Recently, State Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had said that his government would have a “zero tolerance” to drugs policy.

According to police sources, the NCB official was forced to fire after he got engaged in a scuffle with a local resident which in turn enraged local residents.
