Nawaz Sharif's bail extension application rejected

Nawaz Sharif's bail extension application rejected

Islamabad, Feb 25 (UNI) The Punjab government on Tuesday rejected former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif's application for extension of bail, saying that his bail period had already lapsed eight weeks ago.
"Initially the Islamabad High Court court had granted bail to the former prime minister for eight weeks on October 29, 2019, but a further eight weeks had passed since then as discussions were underway, thus automatically doubling the period of his bail," State law minister Muhammad Basharat Raja said, explaining the decision.
"The provincial cabinet has decided to not extend bail as there is no further legal or medical basis due to lack of concrete proof", Express Tribune quoted Raja as saying.
