New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Senior leaders and people of the country on Tuesday remembered Freedom Fighter and the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Govind Ballabh Pant on his 132nd birth anniversary.
People across the northern states especially in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh organised commemorative functions in the memory of the Bharat Ratna GB Pant.
'Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant played a key role in India's freedom movement and made notable contribution during the Non- Cooperation, Civil Disobedience and Satyagraha movements,' said President Ram Nath Kovind in his message while remembering and paying tributes to the leader.
Similarly Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying his tribute to Pandit Pant, in his message said, 'Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant was an eminent freedom fighter, a distinguished lawyer and one of the leading architects of post-independence India.'
Defence Mininster Rajnath SIngh, BJP veteran leader L K Advani , Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Prahlad Joshi were amongst the political dignitaries who garlanded the statue of Pandit Pant here in the national capital and paid floral tributes to the leader.
They were accompanied by Pandit Pant’s daughter-in-law Ila Pant, former Union Minister Ajit Singh, and Pt Pant’s grandsons Ranjan and Sunil.
Vice prez M Venkaiah Naidu and many other senior political leaders from different political parties also send across their messages and paid tributes for Pandit Pant including Governors of several states of the country on this occasion.
Pandit Pant, born on September 10 in the year 1887 in the Khoont village in Almora, Uttarakhand.
He was the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and was the second Chief Minister of the United Provinces, during the British regime in 1939.
