Nanak awakened India and preached equality: MP CM

Bhopal, Nov 11 (UNI) Guru Nanak is a resplendent source of eternal inspiration for those who believe in humanity and are selflessly committed to service of mankind, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath averred on Monday.
“We are spiritually privileged to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of the towering saint whose teachings have greater contemporary relevance as humans are facing self-created misfortune. The spirit of unity is threatened and faith in values has been severely shaken. Centuries ago, the seer warned of such situations and also suggested reformative measures. As proud citizens of India, we are fortunate to have the Guru’s verses as our philosopher and guide at a juncture when global ethnic diversities are imperilled by nefarious forces and fanatical mindsets. He is not a teacher of the Sikh community alone but a great spiritual instructor of humanity as he emphasised on cleansing behavioural disorders from both mind and heart,” Mr Nath conveyed via social media.
“Guru Nanak is a sheer icon of socio-religious and cultural harmony. His companionship with Bhai Mardana shines as a unique example. The two noble souls were so profoundly connected that their camaraderie lasted till the Bhai – a decade older than the Guru – departed for his heavenly abode. They travelled together for over 20 years singing the glory of the Supreme Being. The Guru’s songs would be accompanied by Mardana playing the rabab, of which he was an exponent and improvised by making it a six-stringed instrument. He was born into a lower-class Muslim family but his knowledge of music is clearly reflected in the Guru Granth Sahib, which has been set to no less than 60 ragas. With verses of wisdom, Guru Nanak awakened the people of this country as rightly described by the Urdu mystic poet Muhammad ‘Allama’ Iqbal, “Once again a divine voice rose from the Punjab declaring that there is only one God. A perfect man awakened India from its dogmatic slumber.”
