Namma Karnataka Sena chief held over attack on anti-encroachment officials

Bengaluru, July 22 (UNI) Namma Karnataka Sena state president Basavaraj Padukote, the alleged mastermind behind the attack on government officials during an anti-encroachment drive in Bengaluru's Shivajinagar, was arrested on Wednesday, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 11, police said.
Padukote, who allegedly led a mob that assaulted officials of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) during the "Safe Footpath Campaign" on Tuesday, had gone into hiding after the incident by switching off his mobile phone. He was tracked down and arrested by multiple police teams while allegedly attempting to flee, officials said.
Police said a case has been registered at the Commercial Street Police Station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Among those arrested earlier is Padukote's son, Raghu.
