Namaz offered at Bhojshala, puja continues

Dhar, MP, Feb 12 (UNI) Amid the standoff over conducting Basant Panchami puja and offering namaz, nearly 25 members of Muslim community today offered namaz at Bhojshala premises amid tight security. Meanwhile, Hindu organisations continued their uninterrupted puja at a temple outside the controversial shrine. Puja was also being performed inside the shrine. However, Hindu organisations claimed that the district administration sent their own men for puja inside the premises. Dhar District Waqf Board Shakeel Khan told UNI that nearly 25 members of Muslim community entered the premises at around 1300 hrs. Maulana Kamal Mosque Imam Hafiz Shakir led the offering of namaz. Meanwhile, a ‘shobhayatra (religious procession)’ being taken out by Hindu devotees would reach the shrine in a short while. Religious leader Sant Narendranand Saraswati is part of the procession. Dharm Jagran Manch and Bhoj Utsav Samiti had demanded permission for performing uninterrupted puja from dawn to dusk inside the premises. However, the district administration in pursuance of the Archaeological Survey of India’s directives -- had earmarked the period from dawn to noon for the puja, from 1300-1500 hrs for namaz and for re-starting puja from 1530 hrs for being continued till sunset. Since both sides failed to reach a consensus, puja was started at a temple outside the Bhojshala premises at 0930 hrs. The Bhojshala is under the Archaeological Survey of India’s control. The issue heated up during Congress tenure more than a decade back. As per subsequent central directives, puja is conducted every Tuesday and namaz offered each Friday. However, additional efforts are required to maintain law and order when Basant Panchami and Friday namaz clash. Prohibitory orders are in force for the past two months in areas surrounding the monument. UNI XC-PS CJ RSA NS1640
