Naidu quits Cabinet after NDA picks him as VP nominee

New Delhi, Jul 17 (UNI) Venkaiah Naidu today resigned as Union Minister after he was picked up by the NDA as its candidate for the Vice-President's post, election for which will be held on August 5.
Mr Naidu, who had the Information and Broadcasting, and Urban Development portfolio, took the decision to quit the Cabinet to set the highest political standards, since he entered the poll fray with the announcement of his candidature by the party, sources said .
The Minister was, otherwise technically not required to resign at this stage.
The 68-year-old BJP Member of the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan was one of the senior most member of the Modi Cabinet.
