Naidu embarks on 'Nirsana Deeksha' demanding free sand policy

Naidu embarks on 'Nirsana Deeksha' demanding free sand policy

Vijayawada, Nov 14 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) National President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu embarked on a 12-hour ‘Nirsana Deeksha’ at Dharna Chowk here on Thursday demanding the YSRCP government to introduce free sand policy.

Mr Naidu began his Nirsana Deeksha at 0800 hours in protest against the scarcity for sand and demanding the government to reintroduce the free sand policy which his TDP government implemented previously.

He also demanded the government for disbursement of compensation of Rs.25 lakh to the bereaved families of construction workers who died due to various reasons including suicides as their livelihood has been deprived by the sand scarcity.

Addressing the gathering, he said that sand scarcity crippled the construction sector and its allied sectors in the State which deprived the livelihood of construction workers. If the wrong sand policy of YSRCP government did not rectify, it would lead to another crisis.

“The new sand policy created a ‘sand mafia’ in the state. AP Sand is available in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai but the same was not made available in the state by the mafia. Sand is being sold in AP at Rs 4 per kg', he slammed, and questioned Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy whether he did not see the sand mafia in the state.

The former Chief Minister said “The ruling party leaders are indulging in illegal export of sand to neighbouring states. All Opposition parties including TDP, BJP, Janasena, AAP and Left are fighting against the wrong sand policy as it deprived the livelihood of over 35 lakh workers. “Some construction workers committed suicides after expressing their agony in selfi-videos” he alleged.

Coming down heavily on Mr Reddy, Mr Naidu said “development of the state has come to halt due to wrong policies of the new government. Your thoughts limited to plundering of wealth. If you are able to make sand available freely, then do it. Otherwise, accept your inability”, he said.

Mr Naidu, who is also leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, , suggested that the sand should be utilized within AP only and export to neighbouring states should be strictly curbed. Large number of TDP leaders were present.

Mr Naidu will end his fast at around 8 pm tonight.
