Naidu condemns attack on Unnao rape survivor

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) Rajya Sabha chairman and Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu condemned the incident in which a rape survivor was set ablaze in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao on Thursday.
"The entire House condemns the incident. I got in touch with the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, who explained to me that the culprits have been arrested," Mr Naidu said.
"What is needed, is not a mere arrest in one case. We must send out a signal to the entire country and society that in such incidents action should be taken promptly, swiftly, and adequately, so these things are not repeated again."
The survivor was set ablaze while she was going to the station to go to Rae Bareli to meet her lawyer at around 0430 hrs when five people, including one Shivam, attacked her and tried to burn her alive by pouring some liquid.
Other members of the House also expressed concern and demanded stringent action against the culprits.
NCP MP Vandana Chavan termed the incident 'chilling and heartbreaking'.
