Nagaland SPCA condemns shoot-at-sight to pets

Kohima, Jun 01 (UNI) The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Tuensang in concurrence with the Deputy Commissioner Tuensang order issued on May 23 has stated that shooting at sight of dogs or animals is illegal and in contravention to Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
According to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner and the Chairman of SPCA informed that shooting of dogs or killing of pets and animals amounted to cruelty to animals which is punishable under Section 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code.
It is therefore impressed upon all concerned under Tuensang district that, any village authority or ward authority or individuals or groups not to resort to shoot at sight of dogs or other animals. Further, at this time of COVID-19 pandemic, it has to be noted that there is no record of the COVID-19 being transmitted by pets or dogs to human beings, it said.
