Chennai, Mar 31 (UNI) After overcoming all legal hurdles and a slew of controversies, the foundation stone was finally laid for the construction of a state-of-the-art ultra modern building of South Indian Film Artistes Association, popularly called as Nadigar Sangam, today. The bhumi pooja was performed at its premises in the city in the presence of top actors including Superstar Rajinikanth and Thespian Kamal Haasan. The officer-bearers of Nadigar Sangam led by its President Nasser, General Secretary Vishal were part of special poojas that were conducted with icons Rajin and Kamal Haasan placing bricks at the construction site amidst chanting of vedic hymns. The new own building for the Association would come up at a cost of Rs 26 crore and it would be completed by September next year, Vishal said. Speaking on the occasion, Rajinikanth said, 'This is a great success. This success will continue. God bless.' On his part, Kamal Haasan said 'I am very happy that the Nadigar Sangam building which was standing high once and then later turned ground zero is again going to stand tall.' 'I could witness the evolution of this and proud to be a part of it', he said. Talking to reporters, Vishal said 'this historic effort of Nadigar Sangam will benefit new and upcoming artistes. All works have begun and we are confident that everything would be executed well'. 'Nobody can stop us now. We will continue to work towards to achieve what we dreamt of', he said. Vishal also said he and fellow actor and Sangam Treasurer Karthi would donate Rs 10 crore together for the construction of the new building. Speaking through skype from Rajasthan where he was busy shooting for a film, Karthi said 'I feel very proud that the dream of legendary actors like MGR and Sivaji Ganesan has now come true since the Sangam is getting its own building'.
