NABARD launches awareness campaign against stubble burning

Sri Muktsar Sahib, Sep 25 (UNI) In collaboration with Patiala based NGO, National Bank For Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) launched an awareness campaign in Sri Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab against stubble burning of paddy fields.
Farmers burn paddy stubble which hampers the fertility of soil. The burning of crop residue is a major threat to the environment as within few days tons of crop residue is burnt. Now many eco-friendly methods are available to raze the patch, the awareness about the same techniques will be spread through the campaign.
District Development Manager of NABARD, Mr Baljit Singh said, “Under this program, workers of NGO will travel to 80 clusters of villages to motivate the farmers not to burn the paddy stubble. A workshop was organised here to sensitise the other concerned department regarding this mass awareness program.”
