Muslim groups, NGOs to support Zakir Naik

Pune, Jul 16 (UNI) Muslim groups, NGOs and a section of people from the city have joined hands to support controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik, whose speeches are said to have radicalised the Muslim youths and inspired five Bangladeshi militants to carry out the terror attack on July 1 in Dhaka.
The Maharashtra Action Committee (MAC) and Kul Jamaat-e-Tanzeem held two separate meetings in Kondhwa and Camp areas of the city recently, in which members of at least 25 organisations participated, Azar Tamboli, general secretary of the MAC, today told UNI.
He said, ''We do have differences on certain issues with Zakir Naik, but the way he is being targeted now is wrong. There is no evidence about his involvement in any terror activities. Putting a ban on him is against the freedom of speech and expression. So we have decided to support him.''
