Mumbai University includes 'Bhoomika' in syllabus

Mumbai, May 18 (UNI) The acclaimed play "Bhoomika" has been incorporated into the Bachelor of Arts syllabus at the University of Mumbai, marking a significant academic recognition for contemporary Marathi theatre.
Penned by Kshitij Patwardhan, the production has already garnered widespread recognition on stage and is now being studied for its thematic sophistication and artistic relevance.
Directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni, this play marks actor Sachin Khedekar's powerful stage comeback after 21 years. "Bhoomika" powerfully portrays the psychological struggles of an actor's life and the blurring of the lines between reality and performance.
Its inclusion in the curriculum by the Marathi Board of Studies is considered a major achievement for modern Marathi theatre. The play's focus on values such as humanity, reason, and honesty has earned it acclaim from both audiences and critics.
The play has received over 15 awards, including the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award. Renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar was also present at its book launch.
It has been praised by many prominent figures in the country. Film director Ashutosh Gowariker called it a "classic," while actor Paresh Rawal called it a symbol of the strength of modern Marathi theatre.
Having completed over 125 shows in just one year, "Bhoomika" is slated for a special staging on May 22 at the Grand Theatre of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. UNI NST CDS
