Kolkata, Apr 6 (UNI) With the season 10 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) group stage three-quarters over, one team has made the playoffs and three teams that seem to be in contention for the playoff in just another nine days are left to the end of the league stage. So far the four teams that seem to be in contention for the playoff are Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rising Pune Supergiant and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) is the only side which has qualified into the playoffs stage after securing the required 16 points. The team dominated the points table. They have been first or second since their first loss. MI, who are in prime form this season, have played just 10 games and made it to the playoffs. MI are placed at the top of the table and it seems that replacing them from the top slot is almost impossible. They are a balanced side and every player in the team is capable of winning the match on his own. Two-time IPL champion Knight Riders are currently placed at second position in the table as they have 14 points, with seven wins in ten matches. The KKR suffered two back-to-back defeats, else they too would have made it to the playoffs and seated themselves at the top of the table. Kolkata have performed reasonably well under the leadership of their skipper Gautam Gambhir and look top contenders for the title this year. After the match against Rising Pune Supergiant on May 3, they will play two away matches - against Royal Challengers Bangalore (May 7) and Kings XI (May 9) - with their final league match at home, against Mumbai (May 13). With Kolkata Knight Riders pursuing a top-two finish in the league stage, batsman Chris Lynn is keen to play a match before the playoffs, ideally targeting a return against either Kings XI Punjab (May 9) or Mumbai Indians (May 13). Lynn trained with the Knight Riders squad on Tuesday in Kolkata, for the first time since dislocating his shoulder while fielding against Mumbai Indians last month, in his second match of the season. Lynn had made an impressive start to the IPL, hitting an unbeaten 93 off 41 balls against Gujarat Lions and a brisk 32 against Mumbai. Following his injury, KKR used Sunil Narine as an opening Rising Pune Supergiant were not considered in contention of the playoffs early on in the tournament. But suddenly, Rising Pune Supergiant did a turnaround and started winning, as a result they are now placed at third position in the table with 14 points from 11 games (7 wins and 4 losses). Steve Smith-led side started performing as a unit in the second-leg of the tournament and hasn't looked back. RPS have registered three wins in a row to present themselves as a contenders for the title. After the opening win over Mumbai Indians, they lost their next three games only to bounce back in style. Ben Stokes has been the chief catalyst of the turnaround, providing match-winning contributions with both bat and ball when the team needed them most. Opener Rahul Tripathi has been a pleasant surprise and Imran Tahir has delivered with the ball whenever required. A clear head and trust in his instincts were crucial factors in Rising Pune Supergiant opener Rahul Tripathi scoring a barrage of boundaries against one of the strongest attacks in the tournament, on an Eden Gardens surface that most of his team-mates struggled on.
