Mudragada kept under house arrest: New twist to reservation stir

Kakinada, Oct 7(UNI) Former Minister and Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmanabham who is spearheading the Kapu reservation movement, has been once again kept under house arrest to prevent him from going ahead with his plan of personal interaction with all sections of kapus at their doorsteps in Konaseema villages for two days commencing from Sunday.

Three other prominent Kapu JAC leaders of Konaseema were also kept under house arrest, including Kapu Porata Samiti chairman Nalla Vishnu, convener Kalvakolanu Tataji in Amalapuram and co-convenor Akula Ramakrishna in Gopalapuram. However the other Kapu JAC leaders including Vasireddy Yesudas, Nunna Venkataramana were not touched as they are from other regions of the East Godavari district.

The police virtually cordoned off Mudragada house in Kirlampudi by deploying over 300 police personnel and prohibitory orders banning processions, rallies and meetings were promulgated under section 30 of the Indian Police Act.

The situation in the district especially in Kirlampudi area which has been peaceful all these days ever since Mudragada deferred his Chalo Amaravati Yathra stir till December first week, has now suddenly turned tense with the police action.

The Kapu JAC leaders who did not anticipate the action have strongly expressed their protest describing it as undemocratic and unconstitutional and nothing but usurping the human rights.

Vasireddi Yesudas chairman Kapu JAC has questioned the propriety in preventing Mudragada from going ahead with his personal interaction with kapus at the door steps. He wondered how the neighbouring West Godavari police had allowed Mudragada to tour villages and interact with Kapus last month and why the East Godavari police applying double standards.

However, SP Vishal Gunni has justified the police action , saying that Konaseema being a sensitive and highly volatile area and Mudragada's visit might create law and order problems, they were forced to restrict his movements.

We have advised him to obtain permission for his proposed ` atmeeya palakarimpu’ plan but he refused Konaseema area is a sensitive area as such we have to take every precaution keeping in view the law and order situation .

As a law enforcement authority we were left with no option except confining him home as a preventive measure, promulgating prohibitory orders’the SP told UNI .

Meanwhile Mudragada has blamed Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for acting vindictively against entire kapu community making a go by to democractic principles and constitutional rights and warned that he was bound to incur the peoples wrath and face the consequences soon .
