MP govt says brand building was achieved during Kamal Nath’s visit to Davos; denies over-spending

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday said that an official delegation led by Chief Minister Kamal Nath to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January had been able to achieve substantial brand building.
Denying reports that a huge sum was spent on the visit, the state government clarified in a press note issued here, that it had spent Rs 1 crore for the visit which was ``relatively a much smaller amount'' compared to other participating states that included Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Referring to news reports emerging from an RTI disclosure that Mr Kamal Nath and his team had spent Rs 1.58 crore for wooing investors at a time when the state was facing a cash crunch, the state government said, ``Davos is the most prestigious investment event across the world and participation in the event helped in brand building of Madhya Pradesh. The state is facing tough competition from other states and therefore branding and promotion of the existing industrial ecosystem is vital.’’
