MP Ashok Mittal says his intervention led to testing of Next-Gen disaster alert system

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Rajya Sabha MP Dr Ashok Mittal, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after quitting AAP, on Thursday claimed that the recent test conducted regarding the ‘Next- Gen Multilingual Disaster Alert System’ followed a proposal given by him during a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah.
Backed by a 2024 report of the NDMA, Mittal highlighted certain points and shortcomings with linked to disaster governance, noting that fewer than 10 per cent of districts had effectively adopted disaster management plans.
The MP had pointed out that Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies remained largely disconnected from the framework.
