More representation of women in field of science is need of hour: Kovind

Lucknow, Oct 6 (UNI) Expressing concern over less participation of women in field of science, President Ram Nath Kovind here on Saturday said that it’s our collective responsibility to improve this situation.

Addressing the gathering here at India International Science Fair after inaugurating it formally, President Kovind said that there are only 632 women scientists out of total 3446 scientists in country’s largest scientist’s organisation ‘Council of Scientific and Industrial Research’. He said figures were alarming in the era when women bagging Noble for physics, chemistry and other science fields.

He said that efforts should be made to promote interest of girl students in core science field as the field needs their more representation. In the age of Artificial Intelligence and Gene technology, big leap in the field of science is need of hour, he underlined.

Urging science community to open door of their institution and laboratories for children and commoners, President Kovind said science has contributed in enhancing income of farmers, commoners and has consistent role in national development agenda.

President Kovind maintained that science was always part of Indian traditions and our scientists have notably contributed in field of science with zero, medical science and metallurgy.

India International Science Fair was started on October 5 and will continue till October 8 but it was formally inaugurated by President Kovind today. UP Governor Ram Naik said that this fair will increase interest of student in science field and research works will be promoted.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed that with traditional knowledge we will achieve heights in field of science and pave way for world peace. He said that Indian scientists have done researches and experiments for world welfare since ancient time. He said that India has earned its reputation across the world due to its science and knowledge and it will ensure human welfare and better future.

After ‘complete’ scrutiny of nominations filed for all 60 Assembly Constituencies, including the ‘adjourned’ scrutiny of papers done for Itanagar and Daporijo seats today, altogether seven validly nominated BJP candidates were found to be opponent free, and they are likely to be declared elected unopposed on Saturday after the last date of withdrawal of candidature, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu said.
