Monsoon Session of Parliament ends

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Both Houses of Parliament adjourned sine die after a four-week-long Monsoon Session concluded with BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu taking over as new Rajya Sabha Chairman, signalling the last of significant change of guard in the top echelons of the Government. For the first time, there has been a power shift as after the recent Presidential and Vice Presidential elections, all three top leaders, including President and Vice President, belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the entry of M Venkaiah Naidu as new Vice - President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha as a proof of the maturity of Indian democracy in which the three top posts of the country were for the first time held by people coming from a humble background. 'Today for the first time top public posts are adorned by people who have were rooted to the soil, which itself reflects the respect for the spirit of the Constitution and maturity of the Indian democracy,' the PM said amid thumping of desks by the Members. Before adjourning the Lok Sabha sine die today after a nearly month-long session, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan thanked the Members for their cooperation in conduct of the House that saw as many as 14 Bills passed during the session that got underway on July 17. She said 17 new Bills were introduced in the House during the session. Besides conducting normal legislative business, the Monsoon Session this year also saw a special discussion on the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement. A highlight of the session this year was voting by Members for election of the President and the Vice President. Today was the first day of Mr Naidu in the Upper House where he drove to straight from Rashtrapati Bhawan after being sworn in as 15th Vice-President. MORE UNI TEAM SD SNU 1801
