Mokahda tribal dies after receivingnotice from Forest dept

Thane, Jun 19 (UNI) A 76-year-old tribal from Mokahda taluka of Palghar district, who received a notice from the Forest department regarding his house, gave up food and finally died on Wednesday morning, reports said here.
A leader of Shramajivi Sanghatana, Vijay Jadhav told this correspondent that the deceased was identified as Mahadu Bhangad of Karoli in Aase village of the taluka. He received a notice from the Forest department on May 9, with respect to the house where he lived. The notice was in his son's name.
The Forest officer wanted certain details for the proof of his house, which was built on the Forest land.
The notice also stated that if he fails to present certain documents, then further action would be taken on him.
Upon receiving the notice, the old man took a rude shock and gave up food and starved till Tuesday, when he was rushed to a local hospital, where he died this morning, sources said.
The Forest department wanted proof of the legality of the house.
According to reports, five years back, the gram panchayat has given the benefit of Gharkul Yojana to the tribal.
Chairman of the Committee, which reviews the Tribal projects in the state Vivek Pandit, took a serious note of the death and told this correspondent that he has sought through the Collector, a report from the SDO on the entire incident. He also asked the SDO to carry out a probe into the same, he added.
