Mohali, Nov 28 (UNI) Giving a spirited display, India have placed themselves in a commanding position against England on day 3 of the third Test being played at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium here today. At draw of stumps England were struggling having lost four wickets for 78 runs in their second innings. India had earlier in the day piled up an impressing total of 417 with five of their batsmen contributing 50+ each. This was in reply to England's first innings total of 283. India gained 134-run first innings lead to put England under pressure. Ravichandran Ashwin struck three blows in England's second venture. First Ashwin found the gap between bat and pad of Alastair Cook to bowl the England skipper who could make only 12. The visitors lost their first wicket at 27. Soon after Ashwin had Moeen Ali (5) caught by Jayant Yadav to reduce England to 39 for 2 in 19.5 overs. Ben Stokes became Ashwin's third wicket. He was adjudged leg before wicket after making 5 runs. In between Jayant Yadav got the wicket of Jonny Bairstow (15), with Parthiv Patel taking a brilliant catch behind the stumps. At close Joe Root who opened England's second innings with Cook was batting on 36. He has so far faced 101 balls and reached the fence twice. Gareth Batty has yet to open his account.
