Beijing, July 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet at this year's BRICS summit in Johannesburg next week and discuss multiple issues such as rising trade protectionism, besides bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Friday.
"Currently, the protectionist and unilateralist measures taken by the United States have attracted widespread attention within the international community,” Hua said at a regular press conference.
Both China and India firmly support multilateralism, and the building of an open world economy, Hua said. "This is also a consensus among BRICS countries," China Global Television quoted her as saying.
Both China and India are now locked in trade disputes with the US.
The BRICS summit begins on July 25. The Johannesburg meeting will be the third meeting between Modi and Xi. Earlier, they met during Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in May and then in Wuhan in April.
