New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condoled the dastardly terrorist attack in Christchurch in New Zealand and said hatred and violence cannot have any place in diverse and democratic societies.
In a letter addressed to his New Zealand counterpart Jacinda Ardern, Mr Modi expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved in the dastardly attack.
According to an official releases, the Prime Minister offered heartfelt prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured and underscored "India’s solidarity with the friendly people of New Zealand at this difficult time".
Mr Modi expressed his deep shock and sadness at the loss of scores of innocent lives in the "heinous terrorist attack at the places of worship in Christchurch" on Friday.
The Prime Minister stressed India’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations "and of all those who support such acts of violence".
He also said "hatred and violence have no place in diverse and democratic societies".
Gunmen opened fire inside two mosques in Christchurch during afternoon prayers on Friday killing at least 49 people and injuring several.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, Indian High Commission in New Zealand said, "We are shocked to hear about the shooting in Christchurch.
