Modi shakes hand with Indian, US players

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met Indian and the US Players ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup here tonight at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Reaching the stadium, Mr Modi was warmly welcomed by the Sports Minster Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, President of All India Football Association Praful Patel and FIFA Officials.
The PM was presented a FIFA flag as a souvenir on behalf of FIFA.
Mr Modi honored the country's great footballer P K Banerjee, veteran player I M Vijayan, former captain Baichung Bhutia and current captain Sunil Chhetri with shawl and souvenirs.
After this Mr Modi also presented football to some children.

On reaching the ground he joined hands with match officials and the players of both the teams. The PM also patted the back of some Indian players Mr Rathore and Mr Patel were also present on the field with Mr Modi.
The Prime Minister was present on the field during the national anthem of both the teams.

Earlier, the PM wished best of luck to all the teams participating in the World Cup.
India which is hosting the mega event for the first time will be played in six different cities of the country.
The Prime Minister welcomed all 24 participating teams in the country and gave them their best wishes.

Mr Modi said, "I welcome all the teams participating in the Under-17 football World Cup and give them their best wishes. I am sure FIFA World Cup will be a great tournament for football lovers. "

In his Maan Ki Baat programme last month the PM had mentioned about the FIFA U-17 WC saying that entire country should hear the echo of football.
