New Delhi, June 12 (UNI) The country's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Wednesday decided to confer Distinguished Alumni Award on two of its "illustrious alumni" Nirmala Sitharaman and Dr S Jaishankar.
The decision was taken by the Executive Council of the varsity, an announcement said here adding the award will be bestowed on two Union Ministers during the convocation of JNU in August.
A statement from the University said the two Union Ministers will be the first recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award to be conferred by the esteemed seat of learning.
Incidentally, the JNU is known in the academic and political circle as an institution dominated by left liberals.
The statement said the new Finance Minister Ms Sitharaman completed her MA and M Phil degree programmes in the School of Social Sciences and School of International Studies, respectively.
Dr Jaishankar did his M Phil and Doctoral Research in the School of International Studies, where he also specialised on Nuclear Diplomacy.
"Their highly distinguished career and achievements have made the University very proud and they are a great source of inspiration for JNU students and researchers", the statement said.
